Retaliation in Housing

Retaliation is an adverse action taken against a person because he or she has asserted their rights, opposed a discriminatory practice, submitted a complaint, testified or participated in an investigation, and/or requested an accommodation.

Examples of Retaliation

  • Unwarranted violations/fines
  • Unwarranted eviction
  • Refusal to provide maintenance services

What to do if Retaliated Against

  1. Submit a complaint with your landlord/housing provider; or
  2. Contact the Commission; or
  3. Submit a complaint with the Commission
