Tenant Complaints

It is recommended that tenants with concerns of discrimination and/or harassment should file complaints, in writing, to the landlord/housing provider or designated staff member.

Information for Tenants

If a tenant is experiencing discrimination and/or harassment from another tenant, a guest to the property or an employee, they must submit a complaint with the Landlord/Housing Provider to put them on notice of the issue and allow them the opportunity to take prompt, remedial action.

If a tenant is experiencing discrimination and/or harassment from the Landlord, Owner, or Housing Provider or if no action was taken in response to a previously filed complaint, or if the tenant has been subjected to retaliation, it is recommended they contact the Commission to discuss filing a complaint.

Information for Landlords & Housing Providers

In receipt of a tenant complaint concerning discrimination, harassment or retaliation, the Landlord/Housing Provider is required to take prompt, remedial action. A confidential investigation (to the extent possible) should be conducted, and appropriate action taken to cease, correct and prevent the behavior.

It is recommended action taken in response to tenant complaints be well documented and retained for the duration of the tenancy.
